Two Year Old Winner

We broke our first 2 yr. old maiden for 2014 with LIMEDABOSS, a filly that we bred and have taken on some partners with. It is her second time out and she won by 3 lengths. This put us over $400,000 for the year which is less than we want, but at least we are warming things up.

We ran our second horse at Saratoga today, finished 4th and she was claimed. We had claimed her for owner Barry Ostrager the last day of Churchill for $20,000, then ran back here for $25,000 where there was a nine way shake for the claim.

Something you want to remember about claiming in Indiana is after the claim there is no rise of 25% as there is at other tracks. You can also take your claimed horse and run where ever you like. Claim today and run tomorrow at Saratoga if you choose.

In September Kentucky Downs runs a six day meet (all grass) where maidens run for $90,000 and Allowance races start at $100,000. So, good time to claim one and get in the business.

Saratoga

We have taken a couple to Saratoga this year. Have not been there in several years. JANE’S HEIR (owner Alharbi Equine), the filly that won two in a row at Churchill Downs is in a starter Allowance on the turf going 1 1/16th on Sunday.

Then on Wednesday we are running a filly (DASH TO THE FLASH– owner Barry R. Ostrager) that we just claimed at the end of Churchill for $20,000. She is in for $25,000 claiming and the purse is $50,000.
We hope to be running another one this coming Friday, so watch the entries.

Winners!

We have had a good week so far. One win at Ellis Park on the 4th of July. HARBOR CAT won at Indiana Downs NW4 Allowance, which I was kind of proud of as she was 10 days short of a year since her last race. On Friday, SALTY RIM won a N2 going one mile by 6 1/2 lengths. Lets hope the momentum continues.

The yearling sales start tomorrow (Monday) with Fasig Tipton selling 250 or so in a select sale. They also have 100 racing age horses for sale. Most have started at various places. There is a dispersal of Eugene Melnyk’s racing stable included in the racing age sale. This would be a place to jump start your stable.

First of July

Hope everyone had a nice holiday weekend. The weather couldn’t have been better here in Louisville. Churchill’s meet ended last week. The stable won a race over the last weekend with the filly JANE’S HEIR who won two at the meet. She was claimed at Keeneland in April 2014 for $16,000 and she won for claiming $25,000 and then came back and won a starter allowance for new client Alharbi Stable. They were quite thrilled and treated the whole barn to carrots and apples!

Opening weekend at Ellis Park we won a race with KERISMA for Joseph Fowler and Penny Lauer owners.  This summer we will be mostly running at Indiana Grand or Ellis Park and might run a few at the old River Downs Track that has been renamed Belterra Racing and Casino. I am sure we will venture out somewhere else, just not sure where yet. Churchill Downs will be back with a September meet as well as Kentucky Downs who will run their five days on the European Grass course.

The stable has won over $300,000 so far this year. Not as well as we had hoped at this point. We always do better the second half of the calendar year. We have run only one two year old so far this year and she ran 3rd. I was quite pleased with her performance.

The yearling auctions start next week, and included in that is a Horses of Racing Age sale with approximately 100 entries. It would be a good place to find a ready made to run horse if anyone is interested in expanding your stable. It is also a very good place to buy yearlings to run next year as two year olds, but does require more patience.
