Big Day at Indiana Grand

We had a very good day today beginning with our oldest daughter Elizabeth celebrating her 27th birthday.

Indiana Grand had four Indiana Bred Stakes today and we had a win, a third, a fourth and a fifth as well as a couple of no where’s. The big winner of the day was homebred MISTER POLLARD who won the $150,000 Governor’s Stakes for owners Falcon Racing Stable (Michael Johnson Tony Medley) Scott and Jim Farrar (all of whom bought into the colt as an unraced Two Year Old) and Penny Lauer.  This puts his lifetime earnings up near a quarter of a million dollars.  We also ran 4th in this same race with another homebred named AFT. We happened to win the Governor’s Stakes race last year with JOINT TENANT.

DREAMIN BIG ran third today. She ran a good race and went over $550,000 in earnings today as her career winds down.

We got our first quote in the Saratoga Special, which is a daily tabloid that is put out in Saratoga everyday after our big win with ICED OVER. Here is the quote….and the link http://thisishorseracing.com/news/PDF/2014special/08-05-14.pdf

• A morning shoe change helped Iced Over get
over the turf and win Monday’s fourth race, a New
York-bred maiden going 1 1/8 miles.
The race came just after an afternoon downpour,
and went to the hard-charging Iced Over, who held
off a late rally from long shot first-time starter Talladega
to win by a half-length. Manuel Franco rode
the winner, a son of Utopia and the Pine Bluff mare
Glimmer Ice. Owner, trainer and co-breeder Michael
Lauer said his horse was battling a quarter crack.
“He is still growing out of it,” Lauer said. “We
are soaking it and we just put a bar shoe on it and
we three-quartered it today.”
Although the shoe did not slow down the colt’s
training much, the injury did slow down his season
as he made his first start since finishing third at
Churchill Downs in June.
“There was a race two weeks ago and we weren’t
ready to run so, we had to wait our turn,” said Lauer,
“He’s kind of been a hard luck horse but he ran
a big race today.”

The stable is just under $600,000 in earnings and my trainer stats have moved me from the 300’s to 230 nationwide.

Looking to move forward as we have four more horses running in the next two days.
