Liz here…and I have no idea who any of these horses are. Maybe another Lauer can fill in the gaps…these are from my Sunday afternoon. Enjoy!
I do know the white faced, big belly mare in the first two is a nurse mare 🙂 She's a hungry lady!
I am sure the Texans are doing good now that they have had a couple of big wins, a flask of bourbon and their fill of fried butter. Sounded like a great combination.
The last yearling sale of the year is this week at Fasig Tipton Kentucky. The last two Derby winners came out of this sale. The new Fasig Tipton wanted to cancel this sale earlier in the year, but wisely came to their senses after public out cry. So if you want to buy the 2011 Derby winner, he or she could be in this sale.
In two weeks is the November Breeding Stock Sale which has a lot of racing horses in it this year. Stock Market went back up, time to get into racing.
The big college football game is the Red River Rivalry, #3 Texas vs. #20 Oklahoma in the Cotton Bowl. I am sure our Texas friends (Jim and Scott Farrar) will be there along with their sidekick Cliff (always entertaining). The Buckeye's play at Purdue at Noon Eastern. Southern Cal plays at Notre Dame. The Wildcats play at Auburn (if anyone wants to know). On Sunday you got those 4/1 Bengals!
We had two wins this past week. SAFE who is owned by Jerry Merritt and Penny Lauer broke her maiden at Kentucky Downs. This is the all grass European style course in south central Kentucky. They unfortunately only run 4 days a year. Friday and Saturday we ran a lot of our Indiana Breds. TRUST N SEVEN won the $70,000 added "The Hoosier Breeders Sophomore Stakes" by eleven lengths. Her third stake win of the year in Indiana. TENMORran 3rd in the colt division of the stake. CHOW WAGON, HEY THERE CUPCAKE and NEED MONEY DAD all ran 3rd in allowances races. The purses have taken a huge boost due to the casino's. So now the stable has passed the $600,000 mark in earnings for the year. We will be hard pressed to make our goal of one million unless another one jumps up in quality or we get some new horses to run (hint, hint).
