#34

We had win #34 tonight at Hoosier Park with home-bred CHOW WAGON. This and a third place finish for MS. RED HAWK last night pushes us closer to our money won goal. This win has also taken us over our all time high of previous money won in a year of $865,000. Yea!! Stay tuned……….

Good Week

We had a good week last week, as we won three Two Year Old Maiden Specials. One was a first time starter (PRIZE WINNER owner Penny Lauer) a Pennsylvania Homebred that ran at Presque Isle Downs in Erie, Pennsylvania. The other two winners ran at Hoosier Park; second time starter (IT'S RODEO TIME owner Ron Saunders) and third time starter (ON Z RUN owners Penny Lauer and Jerry Merritt). We also had  two year old (RUNFORHONOR owners Penny Lauer and Jerry Merritt) run a bang up second at Presque Isle Downs.  The stable is up to 33 wins and over $844,000 in year to date winnings. With any luck we could go over the million dollar goal this weekend as we will be running about ten horses which includes three stakes races.

The Keeneland Sales are over and they were slightly up overall which is encouraging to the horse industry. We sold three horses that we either owned all or part of. We have three Pennsylvania Bred Yearling fillies selling next week in the Fasig Tipton Maryland Sale. It is only a two day sale but a good sale, and a lot of really nice horses have come out of it. (They also have great food available if you like crab cakes.)

We have had about ten drops of rain since August 20th and the earth is cracking. This follows up the 86 days of over 90 degree temperatures this summer. Hottest summer in recorded history here. We look forward to a good soaking rain and the cooler fall temperatures.

News of the day

We won one race (RIVIE) and had three seconds last weekend (DREAMIN BIG (stake race), METRO DEVIL, PLAN AHEAD). We also had a 3rd place in a stakes race with ELLENBERGER PARK. I thought we should have won one or two others as we had some "rider error" in there. But that always goes without saying. We didn't do as well as we hoped, but it could have been a lot worse.

The Keeneland yearling sales are doing quite well this week. We sold one as a group for $80,000. I have mixed feelings on that (as we always do) but the colt is gone and will take a long trip to Russia where he will be running for rubles. There is still half the sale left, so plenty of time to get involved. We still have two left to sell late next week, both being Indiana Breds.

If you happen to see any rain, please send it this direction. We haven't seen any since August 20th and none in the forecast for the next week.

Let the racing begin………

The Keeneland Sales start Monday and will continue for 2 1/2 weeks. We will be selling a few and looking to buy a few for those of you with racing and pin hooking interest. Everyone is scared to death as to what the market will be. I think it will be down some overall, but I think the state bred horses will be up (Indiana, NY, Penn, La.).

This past week we won a 2 yr. old maiden race at Hoosier Park with Kentucky Bred, TRASH TO TREASURE. Inching a little closer to our goal.

The stable will be quite active in racing this weekend beginning with WHISTLIN JEAN in the 7th tonight at Hoosier Park. Friday METRO DEVIL and SHINE OLA  will be running at Turfway Park and then ROCKIN' ROCKSTAR will race in the Presque Isle Mile Stake for $250,000. Friday night at Hoosier Park will have CHOW WAGON in an allowance race scheduled as the 8th on the evenings card. Saturday we will run a first time starter REDLIGHTGREENLIGHT in a maiden 2 yr. old  PA bred race and the filly RIVIE will go one mile in the 6th race at Presque Isle. At Hoosier Park we will run WRIGLEY IVY in the 4th race as well as the Two Year Old DREAMIN BIG (who broke the track record last time out) will be running in The City of Anderson Stakes. Sunday we have two in at Hoosier Park . The first is PLAN AHEAD in the 5th race and then ELLENBERGER PARK that will be running in The Hillsdale Stakes for Indiana Bred colts. If we win them all we will be almost to our goal of a million in earnings for the year. That would be quite exciting if it were to happen! We will definitely win some of these, just not sure how many.

We are looking forward to the forecasted break in the weather with our best chance of rain in weeks! We soooooooo need rain!

And last but not least, pro Football officially starts tonight so you know summer is over.

Weekly Winners

We have had a busy week running mostly at Hoosier Park, but also Presque Isle and Ellis Park. We had two winners both at Hoosier Park and both homebreds. ELLENBERGER PARK is a two year old colt owned and bred by Lauer and Ralph Piercy and MS. RED HAWK  is a three year old filly owned and bred by Lauer. The purses have gone up in Indiana. Total gross purses for the two races was $66,000 for a maiden and a non three life.

We did get over $700,000 in total gross purses for 2010, so we are getting closer to the goal, but still a long way off. As I said before, it would be a good time to get a horse to run in Indiana as the purses are up.

In ten days the yearling sales start here, which is always a good place to get a horse. We also have a number of Indiana Bred yearlings we would love to partner up on. We have some very easy to get in packages. Give me a call and we can discuss it.
