Winner Winner

Had our first winner for 2016 for owners Tim James and Penny Lauer with DADDY’S MEMORY at Oaklawn Park. He had a number of traffic issues, but never gave up and got up for the win. He paid $87.20, $40.20, 13.80

Oaklawn Park

I know racing sometimes has problems, but not so much at Oaklawn Park. There were roughly 24000 spectators there Saturday attending the races. They wagered almost $1.5 million on track. For the first 18 days at Oaklawn they have had 162 horses claimed for a total of $2.44 million. They have had “shakes” as high as 16 for one horse. Racing is prospering in Arkansas. Purses have been raised anywhere from $500 to $3000 per purse starting immediately; so now maiden special is running for $70,000 and the bottom $5000 claimers are running for $21,500.

February Sales

Fasig-Tipton begins a two day sale of mixed horses. There is a pretty good group of race horses in there amongst mares and foals. Let me know if you have any interest and we can look at them more in depth. There are also many to claim at Oaklawn. They are claiming about ten a day.

January Racing Age Sales Begin

Hope you all got through the Holidays in good order. The Keeneland January Horses of all Ages kicks off the new year once again. It runs January 11th-15th. There is a great variety of racing age horses. Some for every pocketbook.

This Friday the 15th Oaklawn Park in Hot Springs Arkansas opens and runs through April 16th. Great purses! Minimum purse for $5000 claimers is $21,000. Maidens Special runs for $68,000, which this time of year is more than anywhere else in the country.

Also the Power Ball has reached a new record of over a Billion Dollars for the Wednesday nights drawing. Just think of the stable you could have if you are the big winner!
