We have had a good week so far. One win at Ellis Park on the 4th of July. HARBOR CAT won at Indiana Downs NW4 Allowance, which I was kind of proud of as she was 10 days short of a year since her last race. On Friday, SALTY RIM won a N2 going one mile by 6 1/2 lengths. Lets hope the momentum continues.

BELMONT DAY
Tomorrow, I think CALIFORNIA CHROME will win the Belmont (at least I hope he does). It should be an interesting run race. The last three Triple Crown winners went wire to wire. CC has a good post but will need to avoid any traps set by other jock’s, as they tried in the Preakness to pin him down inside. I do hope RIDE ON CURLIN runs a big race and at least hits the board.
It is a great card tomorrow. SOCIAL INCLUSION should win the Woody Stephen’s if you are a big fan of the turn back. The Met Mile is a great race. I kind of like Vyjack if he can beat Palace Malice. I know he will be a long shot.
The rest of the card is loaded. A lot of quality fields that are hard to handicap. I look for a few long shots to come in. Not that they are really long shots, just overlooked horses as the crowds will be betting names and colors and jockeys. I expect over a hundred thousand people to attend. Myself and my youngest daughter Abby were there for the BIG BROWN running and it was over 90 degrees and humid. Not my favorite temperature.
By far CALIFORNIA CHROME has the best story. Mother bought for $8000. Stud fee was $2500. The guy had a dream, turned down gigantic offers (which is very gutsy) made history with the horse and now is on the verge of immortality. I should also mention RIDE ON CURLIN was purchased for $25,000 and they turned down over a million for the horse last year. And he broke his maiden at Ellis Park. Gives the little guy some hope.
Go bet em up as we need the handle!
Mother’s Day
Wishing a very Happy Mothers Day to all the wonderful mothers! Penny and I both had great ones!

Oaklawn Ends
Oaklawn Park closes today with the running of The Arkansas Derby. My pick is Ride on Curlin.
Mister Pollard dead heated for 2nd in the $100,000 Bachelor Stakes (3 yr. olds going 3/4) getting beat a half length for it all and having to go wide circling the field. The race went 3/4 in 110.06. He was 95 to 1. His first start of the year was a Stakes Race in March when he stumbled at the half mile pole and the rider just rode him in. We aren’t sure what happened exactly , but he was bumped while switching leads which is the only thing we could figure out that would have caused the stumble. He came back with only three shoes and we felt quite lucky that the missing shoe was his only problem.
Moving on to Keeneland’s spring meet followed by Churchill Downs’ opening in two weeks and Indiana Grand’s opening in three weeks.
