Over the million, but not by the margin we hoped for today

I always said this game can be very rewarding and very frustrating. We ran a second and a third in the two Indiana stakes today. The girl end we chased an easy pace all the way around and never caught the leader and then got caught for second.  Nobody went out with the leader and she got an easy pace. She had the one hole and got out for a quick lead and boom, race over.

In the boy division we got beat by the shortest nose possible without it being a dead heat.  Even the track photographer followed us out like we had won, just to get kicked in the teeth when the photo was posted. The classic case when two horses are battling for the lead down the stretch and you finally get the lead to have the third horse come at you for another battle and get beat the smallest of noses. BADABING BADABOOM

However, we did go over a million in earnings for the year, which is good.

Tomorrow is another day.

Racing Update & July Celebration

Tomorrow is another big day for Indiana Racing. There are two $150,000 Stakes (one for colts and one for fillies) and we are well represented in both of them.

July was a good month. We won 10 races between Indiana, Ohio and Kentucky.  That puts us at 28 wins for the year and $960,000 in earnings. We definitely hope to go over the million tomorrow.

We did get as high as 104th on the leading trainer by earnings for the year. As of now we have fallen back to 112th, which is still very good.

We also had a third grandson born on July 22nd. We won a race that afternoon and he was born just before midnight to our oldest daughter Elizabeth and her husband Luke. They now have two sons and both baby Calvin and Elizabeth are doing well. So far, their 2  yr. old son Truman is a big fan of the new baby brother. We love the grandchildren!

Winner Winner “Stake” Dinner

Two Year Old CAKE POP won the “HOOVER” Stakes at Belterra Park today. This was his second lifetime start and his second win. He is the first foal out of the mare HEY THERE CUPCAKE and is a homebred. This is the third win of the week for the stable which included JUST A PINCH at Belterra July 3rd and HOOSIER NEIGHBOR at Indiana Grand July 5th.

The stable is at 21 wins for the year so far and over $738, 000 in earnings.

June Ending Stats

June was a great month for the stable. On four separate days we won double races between Belterra Park and Indiana Grand. Add to that a single win at Belmont Park for a total of nine wins for the month of June. We end the month being the leading money winning trainer at Indiana Grand with over half a million at Indiana alone. The stable is at $650,000+ money won for the year at all tracks.

We have started three two year olds, the first one (CAKE POP)  won first time out at Belterra Park and paid $17.60. The second one, (Mister Pollards half sister ACCESSORIZING) ran 5/8ths on the grass and she won paying $98.40. The third one (RUN ALONG) ran today at Churchill Downs and finished second.

We had two horses win twice each this month (BADABING BADABOOM and BOURBON N LIME).

We won one stakes race (BADABING BADABOOM) and finished second in another (TEQUILA AND SALT).

Looking forward to July.

There is a racing age sale July 11th in Lexington.

It is never to late to get in.

Double Winners Today

It is the sixth time this year we have won two races in a day. Today we had two wins, one second, one fourth and a nowhere (had a bad break at the gate). We ran our second two year old of 2016 and had our second win for this first time starter. ACCESSORIZING is a first time starter and half sister to Mister Pollard who is a winner of over $500,000. She paid $98.40 to win and ran a very professional race. She laid right behind the leaders and came up the rail like an old horse. I don’t know why this filly paid so much. It was kind of a shocker to me that she paid so much. Her half brother doesn’t like the grass and Old Fashioned is not a grass sire at all.

BOURBON AND LIME was our other winner of the day for owners Falcon Racing (Michael Johnson) Dana Smith and Penny Lauer. If you remember, he just won last Sunday at Belterra Park. He had five days rest and got the money again today. Both days had 90 degree temperatures. He won easily. Congrats to all!

We have four running tomorrow. Two at Indiana Grand, one at Churchill Downs and yet another at Belmont Park.
