Graduation 2016

This past weekend we attended the commencement services for our youngest daughter, Abby. She is the last of our three children to graduate with a Bachelors Degree. Two of our girls from Morehead State (Abby and Sara) and Elizabeth from Western Kentucky University. We are very proud of her accomplishment and look forward to seeing what is in store for her in the future.

Ides of March

We moved into March and as the norm around here it snowed yesterday and should be in the 60’s on Sunday. We have had some foals which is always exciting and brings us all more dreams of the future. Unfortuntely, the farm is a complete mud hole this time a year which makes it a little difficult for the little ones to get out. The ground is frozen one day, then the rain comes and it is a mush pit. Looking forward to some sunshine this week to help dry us out.

Oaklawn Park has raised their purses again this week. Maiden Special are now running for $75,000 and the bottom $5,000 claimers are running for $24,000. They are continually claiming up to half of the fields in the claiming races. The weather is a good month ahead down there than it is in Kentucky. Plenty of opportunity to get in the game. Come on down for the worlds shortest St. Patrick’s Day Parade (184 feet….the entire parade….with an estimated crowd of 25-30 thousand people).

You can tell spring is just around the corner up north as the Indiana condition book just came out. The Indiana Bred races have had a $1000 increase in purse money from last year and the stakes moved from $85,000 to $100,000.

It is only two months to the Kentucky Derby and you can already feel the city getting ready. Tickets went on sale for the Pegasus Parade and Derby Pegasus Pins are showing up at check out counters all around the county. Derby Glasses and T Shirts are filling the shelves of all the shops. Horse talk is on everyone’s tongue. Get ready!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
