Less than 60 days!

There are less than 60 days to the Derby. There is a major prep every weekend somewhere in America that they can get points for the Derby since this year they are on the point system and not money won. Churchill has assigned the point value of each race. You should be starting to narrow it down to your final ten picks by now.

February was good with the stable winning 3 races total. SLUICEWAY (owners Margaux Farm, Joe Beyel, Matthew Zirwas) and BOOBY PRIZE won at Oaklawn Park while RIGAMARO won at Penn National. We exceeded $100,000 in total earnings in 2013, hopefully on the way to $2 million (wishful thinking).

We have started the month of March with a bang winning 2 races in the first three days. BLUEGRASS D’LITE won for owners Flying H Stables (Tracy & Kent Hersman) and homebred IMAGINARY ISLAND broke his maiden in New York for owner Ralph Piercy.

Oaklawn Park is half way through their meet, but there is still plenty of time to get in it. The purses are good with the bottom purse being $15,500 for $5000 claimers. It is also a great place to enjoy the races. Come on down!

Pick Six hit!

The pick six was hit on Monday at Oaklawn Park for over $500,000 by one person.

Here is a little story about Jocks Agents and their expert handicapping. About a dozen of them chipped in about $100 each on Friday and Saturday to no avail. So now they are down over $2000. On Monday they go at it again. One guy rides a lot for Donnie Von Hemel, tells the group they can single the horse he rides in the the maiden race. Von Hemel had two horses in that race that were not coupled (in Arkansas they do not couple different owner entries). Of course the other Von Hemel horse wins and blows their pick six right out of the water. So much for inside information!

Happy Valentine’s Day!

I am sure you have all heard of the famous St. Valentine’s Day Massacre. We had our own version of it today by winning two out of three races in two different time zones. We won the first at Oaklawn with BOOBY PRIZE (homebred) and he paid $44.80, $17.00, $7.60 as he out gutted two other horses down the stretch. A beautiful sunny 60 degree day at Oaklawn Park.

We also ran in the first at Penn National and finished 4th which is kind of what we expected as the filly had not been out in 3 months. And then we ran RIGAMARO (homebred) in the second and won handily paying $26.00, $13.60, $7.00.

It was a very good Valentine’s Day.

Hope you all had two winners for your sweetheart today

Winning!

The stable won three races in January. We won our first race ever at Charles Town in West Virginia with PRIZE WINNER in an allowance race. She is stabled at Penn National and ran out of conditions, so the only track that had a race in the surrounding area that she was eligible for was this one at Charles Town. It is becoming harder and harder to find races for horses after they have won 3 races. This win took this homebred filly over $200,000  in lifetime winnings.

GOLDEN DUE broke its maiden at Turfway Park. Took the lead and went wire to wire for owners Margaux Farm and Penny Lauer.

Our hard luck horse of 2012 ALL THAT GLIMMERS ran at Oaklawn Park in Hot Springs, Arkansas and won for owners Ralph Piercy and Penny Lauer. She earned that title by being on the vets list twice at Presque Isle for over two months after the vets in Kentucky both times ok’s her to run. These pre race vet inspections are quite controversial.

The bulk of our stable is at Oaklawn Park in Hot Springs Arkansas where (as they say) ” The sun always shines”. The purses have increased from the 2012 meet, with the bottom purse being $15,500. Maiden Special’s are running for $54,000.
